On September 19, 1994, actress Kate Mulgrew took the bridge of the Starship Voyager and began filming her first scenes for the new Star Trek television series. Filming continued that week at various locations, including the Los Angeles Convention Center. Mulgrew, a strikingly beautiful woman with a strong, noble face, was filmed wearing her hair down, in a natural fashion. Paramount executives preferred her hair up.
With a wig of mythic proportions, Mulgrew, cast and production crew were forced to reshoot many scenes, at great expense, for the sake of hair. Sets were rebuilt, the Convention Center rebooked, and extras brought back. For a big, ugly wig.
